Strategic Relationships
Twenty-five years of international grantmaking have provided ABSF with a growing understanding of effective, hands-on philanthropy in a variety of countries. Recent grants in ABSF’s 3 focus areas: the Social Microenterprise Initiative (SMI), women’s empowerment, and disabled mobility have revealed additional opportunities to help stabilize volatile areas and improve the quality of life for people in developing economies.
ABSF is a small family foundation and does not have the resources to fully fund the efforts of our global grantees. Recognizing our limitations, but also the possibilities, in 2008 we began a strategic effort to recruit funding partners and donors who wish to join us in contributing to specific grant projects. Our success over the past 2 years has enabled us to fund many more businesses through SMI and encouraged us to continue these efforts.
Our sole purpose is to increase on-the-ground impact. All of the money received from new funding partners goes directly to our grantees.
While open to partner funding for any of our grantees, ABSF particularly recognizes the tremendous possibilities for expansion in these specific projects:
Social Microenterprise Initiative (Palestine, Vietnam, Kenya, Nicaragua, Ghana) - Providing pay-it-forward small business loans in the developing world. We help entrepreneurs in transitioning economies grow their existing businesses, while creating jobs and providing charitable products, services and vocational training in challenged communities.
RoughRider Wheelchair Project (RRWP) - Promoting the manufacture and distribution of rugged, inexpensive, and easily repairable wheelchairs in Vietnam. Give the gift of mobility and more productive lives to disabled Vietnamese and their families.
